About Number 5

 

Number 5 Restaurant is an elegant dining restaurant in central Auckland city.
We are famous for our passion of New Zealand food and our huge selection of boutique New Zealand wines.
It is the perfect place for visitors to Auckland to come and experience dining at its best.

As well as our fantastic food and comprehensive winelist, we pride ourselves on our exceptional service. Past guests have included the Rt. Hon. Helen Clark, Her Royal Highness, Princess Anne, Burt Bacharach and Sir Sean Connery.
If you are in the mood to be treated like Royalty, then a visit to us is surely in order!

We are open Monday to Saturday from 5.30pm to late night.

The Building

The Building

This is the old brick building in which Number 5 Restaurant is situated. It has been a fine dining restaurant for more than 30 years.
It is a character building with great atmosphere, fantastic views and unique ambience.
The top floor provides private dining for up to 60 people with wonderful views of the city skyline.
The People

The People

• Martina Lutz / Owner •
Martina is from Germany and has been living in New Zealand since 1988. She has been in the hospitality industry for 35 years and owned cafes/restaurants in Germany and New Zealand, including "the other side",  Merlot Wine Cafe and the Wine Loft. 

She also owns Wine Chambers Restaurant and Chambers Bar in Shortland Street in Auckland's CBD.

 

• Hedy Vaessen / Financial Controller •
Hedy was born in Holland and has been living in New Zealand for 30 years. She has been working with Martina for the last twelve years and is the manager and does a splendid job of keeping everyone on their toes!


• John Logan -Manager-
John was born in the South Island, travelled overseas and worked in Michelin Star Restaurants in Europe. In Auckland he worked in the Hilton Hotel  - White Restaurant- and more recent in O'Connell Street Bistro in the CBD

Our Head Chef: Barry Armstrong

Barry comes from the UK, where he worked for 12 at years different establishments, He worked with Peter Arthur at Downing Street and has been working in the team at Wine Chambers Restaurant for one year, where he has shown his talent, creativity and ability to run a kitchen like Number 5's.


We are very happy to have Barry with his talents heading the kitchen.  

Simon Judd -Sous Chef-

He is from England, and he can cook, which might be surprising to some people!!

He has been cooking for 15 years in London and New Zealand. Great support for Barry!

There are other important people in the restaurant :

Gabor is our kitchen porter and has been with us for more than three years.

 Tapu, our kitchenhand who is doing a great job.
